We are off to visit Grandpa.
He's sure to be around.
He doesn't go much these days;
Just getting groceries in town.
Grandpa sings real loud.
Sometimes a little off key.
But he sure likes to sing
That's very plain to me.
He dresses in a suit
And an old fashion tie.
He stops to talk to everyone
Who happens to pass by.
He sits kind of funny
With his head and shoulders bent
And fumbles through his pockets
When the offering plates are sent.
My parents kind of rolled their eyes
When grandpa tells their kid
About the times when he was young
And the crazy things he did.
Grandpa has his own way
Of working on the yard.
He mows it all like crazy.
We think he works too hard.
His face will get so red
In his straw hat and worn out clothes.
What year he bought them
Only grandma knows.
Grandpa reads the Bible.
He reads it all the week.
He sits in his chair without a care
And often falls to sleep.
He wants to share with us
The things he thinks are cute.
I don’t know where he gets it all.
We don’t think he’s too astute.
When I think of Grandpa
I offer God my praise
For all the fun we had with him
And all our happy days.
Children’s children are the crown of old men. Proverbs 17:6
