My Dad - Bill McConihay

My Dad was a big man

With a happy and cheerful face.

He loved to stop and talk awhile

Almost any place.

My Dad was a fixer-upper.

He was a jack of many trades.

For keeping the farm machinery up

I give him accolades.

The way my Dad disciplined

Was a topic of much concern.

Normally, he only spoke once.

I was quick to learn.

My Dad was a butcher.

Yearly he put up a steer.

He would kill, clean, and cut it.

In the freezer it would appear.

My Dad liked to cook.

Oyster stew was his delight.

He bought oysters in season.

It always turned out right.

The last time I saw him

He was so paralyzed.

All he could do was hear me

And tearfully blink his eyes.

My Dad wanted to hear the Bible.

I prayed with him a while.

God was in his heart

And that made it all worthwhile.

Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved

Romans 10:13 ASV
