Merry Christmas Gramma

Merry Christmas Grandma although you are not here

The memory of those days gone by will always bring us cheer.

With wings of love we all would fly up gravel roads and then

We'd see Grandma's house on the hill greatly wintered in.

Dad would stop the car a little off the country lane

And carry in his sleepy kids he never did complain

The house was full of relatives but that just made us glad

Grandma would find places to sleep with her pencil and a pad

My sister and I slept with Grandma my sister by the wall

I was in the middle cause I did not kick at all

We were just as comfy as comfy as could be

Tomorrow we would get a gift that was hanging on the tree.

Grandpa got up early and made a good fire in the stove

We could smell the wood smoke as through the house it'd go

Grandpa got the breakfast but it was for Grandma's voice we'd listen

Then every one would get dressed fast and head for the kitchen

Tomato juice for every one and fried eggs yes a plenty

With such a bunch of folks to feed I'm surprised that there was any

Oranges sliced and on a plate that we would pass around

Pancakes were stacked so tall a big one held them down

We gathered in the front room the kids upon the floor

With folding chairs all around there wasn't room for more

Grandma had tied our presents upon a nice fir tree

Aprons, balls and coloring books how excited we would be

At noon more family came cousins by the dozen

Aunts and uncles with food galore a greater feast there was none

After lunch and dishes done the kids would head out for the hill

We'd slide and play with family friends it always was a thrill

The older ones would set and talk enjoying this special season

No one but Grandma sat in her chair we all knew the reason

Homemade candy oh how good and laughter every where

When time came to say goodby the hugs we all would share

That night before we went to bed we gatherer round for prayer.

Grandpa and Grandma would pray for all the loved ones that were there.

They'd pray for their companion that God would bless them so.

Then after each of us had prayed off to bed we'd go.

Merry Christmas Grandma although you are not here

I think of you so often with each passing year.

Now it's me that's Grandma we're most of the year alone

But Oh how special Christmas is when all the family's home.
