Gone Home

A young man went to battle.

His country he must serve.

It would take all his strength

And a steady calm reserve.

There with his brothers

He would face the foe and fight.

He would long to be at home

And sleep at peace at night.

The day came when he shipped home.

This gave him much delight.

But war had marred and deeply scared;

This is the soldier’s plight.

Happiness and love he found.

With family and friends he would roam.

But the young man who went off to war

Never fully came back home.

His life here now has ended,

Three score and ten plus one.

A home in heaven he has entered.

Complete peace has finally come.

And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
