‘Twas the night of Christ’s birth
when all through the land
the Romans had called
to register each man.
Joseph and Mary went
to Bethlehem town
but no room in the inn
for them could be found.
Mary’s time had come quickly.
Please be aware.
Her first born son
soon would be there.
Out in the fields
the shepherds weren’t asleep.
They were abiding and watching
and tending their sheep.
When Lo the angel
of the Lord came down
and the glory of God
shown all around.
The shepherds were afraid
but an angel full of joy
said “Today in Bethlehem
you may see the Lord’s boy.
He will bring deliverance
to every nation.
Go seen him at once
without hesitation.
This shall be a sign
so he won’t be a stranger.
You will find the babe wrapped
and lain in a manger.”
Suddenly a heavenly army
and that angel again,
said, “Glory to God
and peace to all men.”
When the angels were gone
back into heaven,
The shepherds went to check
on the news they were given.
They saw the baby
as he lay on the hay.
They told all about
what the angels did say.
The shepherds returned
praising God for his word,
for what he had shown them,
and for what they had heard.
They happily exclaimed
as they walked out of sight,
“Praise be to our God
And to all a good night.”
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 KJV
